"As the snow and freezing rain continue throughout the day, I want to remind Rhode Islanders to please stay patient and safe. Tonight's commute will be messy and, again, potentially dangerous. Please watch your speed and take extra time to get home – the roads will be slick and increasingly icy.
"It's also important to give plows the space they need to operate safely on the roadways, and to follow the parking bans in your community so road clearing can continue.
"In addition to more snow and sleet this afternoon and evening, temperatures will drop rapidly and are expected to be well-below freezing in the early evening. Please plan ahead and be mindful bridges may need to close tonight due to freezing. I remain in close contact with our state agencies and we will keep you informed of any updates.
"Lastly, I want to continue to remind everyone to check on neighbors and loved ones and make sure they have everything they need to stay warm and safe. If you need help or assistance, please remember you can call 2-1-1 for non-emergencies. If you are looking to help a neighbor during this storm, you can sign up to help shovel driveways through Serve Rhode Island at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SRI_SAFE-D. They have many requests for help and need your support.
This storm may cause isolated power outages. Remember: Do NOT call 911 to report a power outage. Contact National Grid at 1-800-465-1212.
